1-54 Marrakech (Morocco)
Celebrate contemporary African art in the historic city of Marrakech from 30 January to 2 February 2025. The 2025 edition will feature 25 exhibitors, including AFIKARIS, Gallery 1957, So Art Gallery Casablanca, Ross-Sutton Gallery, and Nil Gallery.
Art Cairo (Egypt)
Showcasing Egyptian and regional artists, Art Cairo is a cultural hub for collectors. The sixth edition of the fair will be hosted at the Grand Egyptian Museum, and the fair will display some 3,000 art pieces to showcase an appreciation of Arab art and heritage. The event runs from 8 to 11 February.
Stellenbosch Triennale (South Africa)
Stellenbosch, a university and wine district town an hour outside Cape Town in South Africa, hosts its second edition of the Stellenbosch Triennale from 19 February to 30 April. Curated by Dr Khanyile Mbongwa (who also curated the 2023 Liverpool Biennale) and Dr Mike Tigere Mavura, the triennial event focusing on African artistic narratives is titled “BA’ZINZILE: A REHEARSAL FOR BREATHING”.

Cape Town Art Fair (South Africa)
Cape Town Art Fair, Africa’s most prominent art fair, will host its 12th edition from 21 to 23 February. With over 120 exhibitors, 30,000 visitors, and 10,000 VIPs, it offers a platform for galleries, collectors, curators and artists from around the globe to create connections at the forefront of contemporary art.
Latitudes Art Fair (South Africa)
Latitudes Art Fair returns to Johannesburg for its third edition from 23 to 25 May. Galleries and artists from Africa and its diaspora showcase their art throughout Shepstone Gardens. This fair is located on a unique (as art fairs go) and magnificent three-acre property that has been featured in several Netflix movies.
Congo Biennale (Democratic Republic of the Congo)
The third edition of the Congo Biennale will be held from 16 July to 30 August in the DRC’s capital of Kinshasa. The multi-site Biennale, founded by renowned Congolese artist and curator Vitshois Mwilambwe Bondo, will be the most significant contemporary art event held in the DRC.
ArtJoburg (South Africa)
Based in Johannesburg, ArtJoburg is the continent’s leading and longest-running contemporary African art fair. For the last 17 years, Art Joburg has played an instrumental role in developing and sustaining a commercial industry that centres around African and diasporic practitioners. Its 18th edition will be held from 5 to 7 September 2025 at the Sandton Convention Centre. Alongside the fair, Open City features programming at numerous venues across the City of Gold related to culture for 16 days, starting on 28 August 2025.
ART X Lagos (Nigeria)
One of Africa’s leading international art fairs, the 10th edition is stellar for highlighting emerging talent in Nigeria. ART X Lagos is more than a conventional art fair. Through its ambitious programme, the ART X platform features immersive experiences across music, film, design and art that centre the continent and diaspora’s exceptional talent. In the past, keynote artists and speakers have included El Anatsui, Njideka Akunyili-Crosby, Yinka Shonibare CBE, Wangechi Mutu, Bruce Onobrakpeya, and Ibrahim Mahama. The 2025 edition will be held from 6 to 9 November and plays anchor to several satellite events in the art ecosystem of Lagos, which take place 7 to 10 days before the start of the fair (and sometimes continue afterwards, too).

Nine Art Events in Asia and Australia
Asia continues to be a powerhouse in the art world, offering a mix of traditional and cutting-edge works.
Art SG (Singapore)
Southeast Asia’s leading international art fair will open on 17 January at the Marina Bay Sands, presenting 105 leading galleries from 30 countries and territories. The gallery programme is complemented by a dynamic array of large-scale, site-specific installations, performances, engaging panel discussions, and a film program co-presented by the ArtScience Museum.
India Art Fair (India)
The largest art fair in India will showcase South Asian contemporary and modern art at the NSIC Exhibition Grounds in New Delhi from 8 to 9 February. This 16th edition will gather around 120 exhibitors, including Akar Prakar, Threshold Art Gallery, Lisson Gallery, Nature Morte, kó, Galleria Continua, Srishti Art Gallery and Chawla Art Gallery.
Art Basel Hong Kong (Hong Kong)
Powering a rich week of exhibitions and cultural events in the city, Art Basel Hong Kong will take place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) from 28 to 30 March. 241 world-class galleries from 42 countries and territories will gather to present their finest programs, confirming the fair’s role as the premier destination for experiencing world-class contemporary art in Asia.
Over half of the galleries hail from the Asia-Pacific, underscoring the fair’s commitment to championing the region’s artistic voices. Exhibitors include White Space, Vadehra Art Gallery, Pi Artworks, MadeIn Gallery, Lisson Gallery, SMAC Art Gallery, and Gagosian.
Taipei Dangdai (Taiwan)
The sixth edition of Taipei Dangdai will take place at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, from 9 to 11 May, featuring a world-class line-up of galleries from around the globe. The art fair is known for its focus on cutting-edge Asian artists and benefits from a diverse local collector base.
Seoul Art Week (South Korea)
Kiaf SEOUL is South Korea’s first international art fair, which opened in 2002. With 20 years of history, Kiaf SEOUL presented traditional and contemporary art in one place as a bridge to connect the Korean art market and the global art market. 2025 will mark the fourth edition of Frieze Seoul, with the fair drawing top international blue-chip galleries. The two fairs’ dates align and will be held from 4 to 7 September.
Sydney Contemporary (Australia)
Sydney Contemporary is Australasia’s premier art fair – the largest and most diverse gathering of leading contemporary art galleries in the region, featuring over 85 galleries and 500+ artists across three sectors: gallery presentations, emerging artists, and works on paper. The 12th edition will run over four days, from 11 to 14 September.
Tokyo Gendai (Japan)
Tokyo Gendai is a (relatively) newly launched fair set to redefine contemporary art in Tokyo. The third edition will take place at a convention centre in Yokohama from 12 to 14 September.
Aichi Triennale (Japan)
Hoor Al Qasimi is the Artistic Director of the 2025 Aichi Triennale, which runs from 13 September to 30 November. Themed “A Time Between Ashes and Roses” from the poem by modernist poet Adonis, the curator explores the relationships between human beings and their environment. Some artists whose works will feature include Wangechi Mutu, Nagasawa Aoi, Basel Abbas and Ruanne Abou-Rahme, John Akomfrah, Mayunkiki, Wendy Hubert, ikkibawiKrrr, Ogawa Machiko, and Tomiyasu Yuma.
Art Jakarta (Indonesia)
Art Jakarta holds on to its main vision to be the Southeast Asian-focused art fair in Asia, and one of the most exciting art fairs in the region. Art Basel writer Payal Uttam has outlined how Jakarta has become a must-visit Southeast Asian art hotspot so you might want to check out the fair which runs from 3 to 5 October at the JIEXPO Convention Centre in Kemayoran, Jakarta.
Six Art Events in Europe
Europe’s events are generally well-covered in the popular press, so many are familiar with all of them. However, if you’re new here, check out the following must-visit destinations for art collectors.
Liverpool Biennial (United Kingdom)
The UK’s largest free festival of contemporary visual art takes place from 7 June to 14 September. The Biennial’s theme is BEDROCK: “The city’s geological foundations and its psyche have provided the starting point for the conversations of Liverpool Biennial 2025, with the invited artists bringing us their own definition of ‘BEDROCK'”, said the curator, Marie-Anne McQuay.
Berlin Biennale (Germany)
As an event known for pushing artistic boundaries and exploring socio-political themes, the 13th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art takes place from 14 June to 14 September. It is curated by Zasha Colah, with Valentina Viviani as the Assistant Curator. The noticeable presence of foxes within the inner city of Berlin is a starting point for thinking through the 13th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art as an investigation of fugitivity.
Art Basel (Switzerland)
Art Basel is often called the crown jewel of the global art fair calendar. It is a centrepiece alongside a number of other fairs taking place in Basel during the same week from 16 to 22 June. This year includes the inaugural Africa Basel to highlight galleries from the African continent, alongside Liste, which brings together more cutting-edge international galleries.
London Art Week (United Kingdom)
The British Capital plays host to Frieze London and Frieze Masters (the latter dedicated to art made before 2000) in Regent Park, and also 1-54 London, which focuses on contemporary African art, at Somerset House. Galleries and museums across the city also open other exhibitions, making it a great time to be in London. The events kick off on Wednesday, 15 October, and continue until Sunday of that week.

Paris Art Week (France)
A week after London Art Week, Paris hosts several art fairs. AKAA (Also Known as Africa) is a Paris-based fair spotlighting African contemporary art and design. At the same time, Art Basel Paris at the Grand Palais combines the prestige of Art Basel with Parisian charm. Paris Internationale and The Salon by NADA and The Community are two additional fairs to be held around the same time. AKAA returns to the Carreau du Temple for its 10th edition from 24 to 26 October, and the dates for Art Basel Paris are the same.
MUNCH Triennale (Norway)
Named after Norwegian painter Edvard Munch, whose 1893 work The Scream has become one of Western art’s most acclaimed images, and the museum which hosts the event, this Triennale explores a dialogue between Nordic and international art. 2025 will be the second edition. Titled “Almost Unreal”, the Triennale explores the spaces between the real and the virtual, old and new technologies, and dystopian and hopeful visions of the future. MUNCH curator Tominga O’Donnell and exhibition curator Mariam Elnozahy lead the way for this event. The Triennale will run from 15 November to 1 March 2026

The Middle East continues to grow as a hub for contemporary art.
Islamic Arts Biennale (Saudi Arabia)
The historic seaside town of Jeddah is again host to the second edition of the Islamic Arts Biennale located at the Western Hajj Terminal at King Abdulaziz International Airport. Following on from the very successful first edition, the event explores the intersection of faith and artistic expression and runs from 25 January to 25 May. Organised by the Diriyah Biennale Foundation, the Islamic Arts Biennale is the first and only Biennale dedicated to the arts of Islamic civilisation.

Sharjah Biennial (United Arab Emirates)
The sixteenth edition of the Sharjah Biennial continues the Biennial’s 30-year history as a platform for artistic experimentation and critical discourse. From 16 February to 15 June, one can find activations in various locations across the emirate of Sharjah, just a 40-minute drive from Dubai. The Biennial is titled “To Carry” and curated by Alia Swastika, Amal Khalaf, Megan Tamati-Quennell, Natasha Ginwala, and Zeynep Öz.
Art Dubai (United Arab Emirates)
The leading art fair in the Middle East will present more than 100 galleries and be located at Madinat Jumeirah from 18 April to 20 April. The fair includes the section Bawwaba, meaning ‘gateway’ in Arabic, which presents 10 solo presentations featuring works created within the past year or conceived for the fair and is a great place to discover works by artists who reflect on their displacement in our current climate and imagine new models of living together. Some galleries to spotlight which will be exhibiting include CARBON 12, Saleh Barakat Gallery, ATHR, Dastan, The Why Not Gallery and Ronchini Gallery.

North America offers a variety of events for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
Mexico City Art Week (Mexico)
Mexico City is an essential stop, with three fairs running the same week. Zona Moca is one of the most important fairs for Latin American contemporary art. The 11th edition of Material will feature artworks from 70 galleries from Mexico and around the world (as far as Estonia and Japan even) at Expo Reforma. Salón Acme is an artist-focused fair. The fairs run across different days from 5 to 11 February.
Frieze Los Angeles (United States)
This premier contemporary art fair in Los Angeles has its dates set for 20 to 23 February, in spite of the wildfires, which have sadly decimated many parts of LA in January 2025 and will use the event to also fundraise for affected victims of the catastrophe and help to rebuild and recover with the LA community. The fair is a draw for other events, as seen with many different art fairs worldwide, and Felix LA will host its seventh edition. At the same time, the Santa Monica Post Office expects to launch a new fair this year as a low-cost alternative to galleries on the sidelines of Frieze Los Angeles. It will focus on solo presentations.
IFPDA Print Fair (United States)
The International Fine Print Dealers Association’s Print Fair celebrates fine prints and works on paper in New York from 28 to 30 March at the Park Avenue Armory. This edition will also feature a site-specific commission by Mickalene Thomas, and with editions being such a common feature in building many collector’s collections, this event is worth visiting if you’re in the vicinity.
New York Art Week (United States)
There are two art weeks in New York – one in May and one in September.
The May edition has four fairs coinciding for 7 to 14 May: Frieze New York and NADA New York, located in the Chelsea gallery district; Independent New York, in another gallery neighbourhood, Tribeca; and TEFAF New York is at the Park Avenue Armory.
The September edition has two fairs from 4 to 7 September: The Armory Show at the Javits Centre and Independent 20th Century at the Battery Maritime Building.
Untitled Art Houston (United States)
A new addition to Houston’s art landscape, Untitled will host 50 exhibitors at the George R. Brown Convention Centre in the Texan city from 19 to 21 September.
Atlanta Art Fair (United States)
The second edition of the Atlanta Art Fair returns to Pullman Yards from 25 to 28 September. Some 60 galleries participated in the 2024 edition, and it’ll be exciting to experience a buzz in Atlanta at an event showcasing the vibrant art scene of the American South.
Miami Art Week (United States)
Miami Art Week typically closes out the art calendar for the year. It comprises three events happening in the city, in and amongst several presentations by galleries and other city spaces. Art Basel Miami Beach has been running since 2002 and is typically the most prominent fair event during Miami Art Week. PRIZM, Untitled Art and NADA Miami accompany Art Basel Miami Beach. Miami Art Week 2025 runs from 5 to 7 December.
Four Art Events in South America
Art advisor Jenny Munoz predicted that 2024 was the year of the rise of Latin American artists in the global art scene since it was the year Adriano Pedrosa stepped into the spotlight as the inaugural Latin American Curator of the Venice Art Biennale for its momentous 60th edition. Off the back of that, it might be on your list of places to explore. Here are art events in South America’s art scene to check out.
Mercosul Biennale (Brazil)
With the idea of “Estalo” (“Snap”) as its central concept, the 14th edition of the Biennale will open on 27 March and run until 1 June. “The main objective of the exhibition’s curatorial concept is to deal with the notion of transformation. In the blink of an eye and in a brief fragment of time, our bodies and nature, for example, undergo transformations of varying magnitudes,” said the event organisers. Curated by Raphael Fonseca and featuring 76 artists, with most of the works being commissioned, the Biennale will be spread across 18 different spaces in Porto Alegre in the southern region of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil.
SP-Arte (Brazil)
Brazil and South America’s most extensive art fair will be held from 2 to 6 April in São Paulo’s Bienal Pavilion.
SACO 1.2 Contemporary Art Biennial (Chile)
SACO Contemporary Art Biennial’s main exhibition is entitled “Dark Ecosystems”, inspired by the ecosystems of the Atacama Desert and runs from 24 June to 14 September in the seaside city of Antofagasta in northern Chile. It will feature 10 artists, nine of whom are from South America.
Bienal de São Paulo (Brazil)
The Bienal de São Paulo is the second-oldest art biennale in the world. The 36th Bienal de São Paulo, which will take place from 6 September to 11 January 2026, will be held at the Ciccillo Matarazzo Pavilion. Entitled “Not All Travellers Walk Roads – Of Humanity as Practice”, the edition will be led by chief curator Prof. Dr. Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung.
